U.S. authorizes partial evacuation of Middle East embassies --Washington reportedly believes Israel could strike Iran's nuclear sites without its approval | 12 June 2025 | The U.S. has begun evacuating non-essential personnel and family members from its embassies and military bases in the Middle East in light of escalating tensions with Iran. The move follows President Donald Trump's accusation that Tehran is "slow-walking" negotiations. "Based on our latest analysis, we decided to reduce the footprint of our Mission in Iraq," the State Department said in an emailed statement to the media on Wednesday. Reuters cited a U.S. official as saying that voluntary departures had also been authorized at the embassies in Kuwait and Bahrain. The Pentagon has likewise approved the departure of family members from military installations in the region.

Federal judge rules anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil cannot be deported or detained by Trump admin | 11 June 2025 | The Trump administration is barred from deporting and continuing to detain anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. New Jersey federal Judge Michael Farbiarz issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting federal officials from booting the Columbia University rabble rouser from the country, arguing that the admin's reasoning that Khalil's continued presence would pose a risk to foreign policy was not sufficient, according to court documents obtained by The Post. Farbiarz ordered that the legal U.S. resident be freed from custody as early as Friday, asserting that his continued detention is causing irreparable harm to his career, his family and his constitutional right to free speech. The Department of Homeland Security has until Friday morning to appeal the decision.

Air India Dreamliner crashes into Ahmedabad college hostel, kills over 240 | 12 June 2025 | More than 240 people were killed when an Air India plane bound for London [Flight AI171] crashed moments after taking off from the city of Ahmedabad on Thursday, authorities said, in the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 people on board, which was headed for Gatwick Airport, south of the British capital, had only one survivor after it crashed onto a medical college hostel during lunch hour. Trump admin terminates legal status of more than half a million migrants enrolled in Biden-era 'parole' program | 12 June 2025 | The Trump administration on Thursday began notifying roughly 530,000 Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan migrants that their legal status has been revoked and they should self-deport immediately. The termination notices went out via email to migrants enrolled in a controversial Biden-era "humanitarian parole" program, which granted foreign nationals from the four countries U.S. work permits and deportation protection for up to two years.
